On Sunday July 29, 2012 the Assyrian Chaldean Syriac Student Union (ACSSU) of Canada held its Annual Meet & Greet and Elections at Kelsey’s Restaurant in Mississauga. The purpose of the event is to showcase all the work ACSSU has done throughout the year, and to elect a new committee for the upcoming academic year.

Carassauga is an incorporated non-profit volunteer community organization, which celebrated its 27th anniversary this year. It operated for the first time in 1986 with 10 Pavilions; initially it was only a two-day event, running only on Saturday and Sunday.

On Wednesday April 25, 2012 the Assyrian people of Armenia gathered to celebrate the official unveiling of the Assyrian Genocide monument in Yerevan, Armenia, along with representatives from the Armenian government, Assyrian organizations from abroad and members of the press were in attendance.

In 2003, prior to the U.S. invasion, Iraq was home to 800,000 - 1.2 million of its indigenous people. Over time 500,000 of these Christians in Iraq sought refuge in Syria, a country consisting of nearly 2.5 million fellow Christians.

On Friday, December 2, 2011, Kurdish Islamic extremists attacked Assyrian (also known as Chaldean and Syriac) owned shops and properties, which were instigated by Friday afternoon prayers calling for Jihad against liquor stores and massage parlours in Zakho in the Dohuk Governorate of Iraq.
